Uganda: Air Force Policeman Charged With Murder

Mbarara — THE Magistrate's court in Mbarara has charged and committed to the High Court a soldier for shooting dead a security guard.

Pt. Alex Mugabe, 29, attached to Air Force, allegedly shot dead Emmanuel Turyamureeba, 30, on March 2, 2006 in Mbarara.

Turyamureeba, a Nile Guard Security employee was guarding a pub where he stopped a one, Mugabe from going outwith a glass he was using.

Second Grade Magistrate Moses Ndifuna, told court last week that the two developed a quarrel.

Mugabe reportedly cocked and pointed his SMG riffle at Turyamureeba, forcing Turyamureeba to do the same with his. Mugabe reportedly shot Turyamureeba and sped off in his car but was arrested before he left the town.

An SMG riffle, 4 magazines and an empty cartridge were arecovered from him.

The magistrate ruled, "You were normal and not mad. You are committed to the High Court. You are remanded until the next convenient high court trial."

Meanwhile, two security guards in Mbarara have been committed to high court on charges of aggravated robbery.
