President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has disclosed that some individuals are bent on undermining her government. The Liberian leader told the nation Friday shortly before she departed the country for Europe and the United States.
Although she did not name anyone or group that is undermining her leadership, but said there were enemies of the state who are doing everything possible to make her government unpopular.
President Sirleaf indicated that the enemies were using other people to create havoc in the country.
In her nationwide address, she disclosed that security officers were taking a close watch and will take decisive action against those she perceived to be enemies.
"We know about these people and their plans than they think; our security agencies are keeping a close watch and will take decisive action against them when the need arises," the Head of State maintained.
The President's statement comes in the wake of an astonishing degree of criminal activities in Liberia, and warned that if they do not desist, appropriate actions would be taken to ensure the stability of the state.
"We would like to warn these people that one person right ends where another person right begins; we shall not waver to move against them for infringing on the rights of others," she stressed.
With this, President Sirleaf disclosed that the National Security Council has already met in an emergency session and will put in place what she called, "Operation Sweeping Wave" within the next forty eight hours, which began yesterday.
The Liberian leader said the Police and the personnel of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) would work together to crack down and arrest those who are disrupting the peace and security of Liberians.
"In this regard, appropriate security measures will be undertaken throughout the country as will be necessary," the President concluded.
