Nairobi — Kenya has been chosen to be the headquarters of a newly-established network aimed at solving unemployment affecting millions of African youth.
The network, dubbed Africa Yes Campaign, was established at the youth employment summit held in Nairobi.
It will be under the ministry of Youth Affairs and will comprise the continent's Anglophone and Francophone countries.
Kenya will also host the secretariat of the campaign for the Eastern Africa region for the next six years.
The recommendations were contained in a declaration crafted by African ministers and read by Youth Affairs minister Dr Mohammed Kuti during the final day of the "Yes Kenya 2006 summit" at Kenyatta International Conference Centre yesterday.
South Africa will host the secretariat for Southern Africa, Algeria (Northern Africa), Nigeria (West Africa), and Cameroon (Central Africa).
Dr Kuti said the first meeting for the new network would be next year at a venue to be announced later.
The minister said regional meetings would be held on a quarterly basis and dates set by the respective secretariats.
