A six-year old girl, Rita Jackson, has been diagnosed by doctors with eye cancer and that her condition can only be treated out of the country.
Little Rita Jackson's situation is so pathetic that upon seeing her, tears will definitely fill the eyes, as the child is wailing in severe pain day and night.
According to little Rita's father, Mr. Nah Jackson who walked into the offices of the INQUIRER yesterday, the child's ordeal started some three weeks ago while playing with her friends in the New Kru Town residence.
Mr. Jackson narrated that on that fateful day, little Rita complained that tears started running from her eyes and therefore left her friends playing and went home.
"After a day, Rita's eyes turned red and something looking very thick and yellowish appeared on her left eye, something that caused us (parents) to hurry her to the Mercy Ship. But then, we were told that the child was suffering from cancer on the eye and this could only be treated out of Liberia preferably in South Africa or Ghana." Mr. Jackson in a sorrowful mood told this paper.
He said since the eye cancer started on the little girl, they have visited several hospitals but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the parents of little Rita are appealing to humanitarian organizations, and individuals of good will to assist their child seek medical treatment out of the country as prescribed by medical practitioners.
Rita's parents are especially appealing to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, House Speaker Edwin Snowe, CCC's Executive Director, Madam Mariama Z. Brown and Rev. Kortu Brown, U.S. Ambassador, Donald Booth and Chinese Ambassador, Lin Songtian to assist them with their child's treatment.
Any assistance must be channeled through the offices of the INQUIRER on phone #06-516533 or on Mr. Jackson's own Number 077-726310.
