Rwanda: Kagame to Address Rwanda Convention

Kigali — President Paul Kagame will today deliver a keynote address at the Third Rwanda Convention at Hyatt Morristown Hotel in New Jersey, US. The meeting dubbed, Houston 2006, will be attended by a high-powered Rwandan delegation and members of the Rwandan Diaspora from across the globe. The business gathering is an occasion to consolidate the bridge between the Northern American Diaspora and Rwanda, according to information posted on Rwanda Convention Association website.

'We decided to synchronise our event with the UN General Assembly to bring to you the top decision maker in Rwanda. This year, we are offering a platform where you can present your projects, ask the right questions or get educated on the different opportunities Rwanda has to offer', the association said on its website.

Delegates will also explore ways how members of Rwanda Diaspora can contribute to development of Rwanda and the region.

The theme of this year's convention is: "Rwanda Open for Business and Tourism"

According to the website, President Kagame's entourage to the Convention include: Protais Mitali; the Minister of Commerce, Industry, Investment Promotion Tourism and Cooperatives, Prof. Romain Murenzi, the Minister for Science and Technology in the President's Office and Rosemary Museminali, the State Minister for Cooperation.

Others include Francis Gatare, the President's Personal Representative to the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD); Williams Nkurunziza, the Director General of Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency (RIEPA); and Emmanuel Hategeka, the Executive Secretary of Rwanda Private Sector Federation (RPSF).

The gathering will also be addressed by several international business leaders including the former US Ambassador to UN and Chairman of Good Works International, Ambassador Andrew Young; Chairman of Operation Hope, John Bryant; President of the International Development Project, - Bill Ryerson; and Bruce Cameron of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.

Also to address the two-day meet is US Congressman Donald Payne. According to the agenda, Rwanda Convention Association will on Sunday carry out a recruitment exercise for regional committees.

Delegates will also be treated to Rwandan traditional dances by cultural troupes based in Rwanda and abroad.

According to the Association President, Nkubito Bakuramutsa, the group's main objectives include marketing Rwanda to the world by 'rebuilding an image of dynamism, development and progress; creating a network of Rwandan professionals to contribute to the country's development; and Introducing Real Estate investment in Rwanda'.
