Namibia: Students Exhibit Art Works

Windhoek — Well-known Namibian communications expert, Norah Appolus, is to officially open an art exhibition of the Visual Art Department-Product Development of the College of the Arts on October 10 which will run until October 28.

"The exhibition coincides with a workshop being held with other institutions now in the process of gaining accreditation from the Namibia Qualifications Authority.

I felt it appropriate to stage the student exhibition with a large body of reflective art works for others to see what the students have been creating as part of the three-year art course," said the head of department, Alfrieda du Plessis.

The course has been running at the Katutura Community Art Centre for the past five years, and thus far 16 students have graduated.

"We hope to obtain accreditation for the sake of our students. Should we get it, the students who already have diplomas in the art field will be acknowledged retrospectively until 2000," said an optimistic Alfrieda du Plessis.
