Kigali — The government has said it would encourage the population to use Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane (DDT) to fight malaria, State Minister for HIV/Aids Dr Innocent Nyaruhirira, has said."DDT is to be used in fight against malaria because it was recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for indoor spray," he said Tuesday. The minister was speaking during the launch of a new malaria therapy at Masaka Health Centre in Kicukiro District.
This position is a defiance of an earlier warning by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) director Dr Rose Mukankomeje, who said that the chemical's use will seriously hamper the growth of trade and investment.
