Zambia: 'Certain Chinese Investments Have Negative Impact On Our Economy'

Lusaka — THERE is an element of truth in what Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata said about Chinese investments in the country, Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) national secretary Chibamba Kanyama has said.

Speaking on British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Network Africa yesterday, Kanyama said certain Chinese investments had negative impact on the economy especially the textile sector. "To a certain extent, these Chinese investments have impacted negatively on the economy with the textile sector being the worst affected. Actually there is an element of truth in what Sata said about these kind of investments and this is why people got the message clearly," Kanyama said. "But we are not saying everything Chinese is bad and they should not pull out but they must review their policies when operating in Zambia."
