Kenya: UK Blind Golfer Wins Charity Event

Nairobi — British blind golfer Ron Tomlinson won a charity tournament in aid of the Kenya Society for the Blind at the Kericho Golf club at the weekend.

Tomlinson, playing off handicap 49, posted 21 points in the front nine before rounding off with 17 points in the back nine to collect 38 stableford points.

Home golfer Raymond Keter took the runner-up position

with 37 stableford points of 21 and 16. The third position was decided on countback with club chairman Andrew Cheruiyot winning after tying on 36 stableford points with Joel Koech.

But Koech managed to scoop the first nine award with 22 points, while Bashir Awan won the second nine award with 18 points.

Ezekiel Koech won the longest drive in hole pin 17 award while Moses Mavoko scooped nearest to pin 14 award. Tomlinson called upon visually-impaired Kenyans to embrace other sporting events besides athletics.

Tomlinson, a retired computer programmer, and Peter Hodgkinson are in Kenya to raise funds towards eye care.
