Addis Ababa — The Society for Women and AIDS in Africa-Ethiopia, (SWAAE) says it has allocated 1.7 million birr for 2006 to execute anti-HIV/AIDS intervention activities that benefit over 1,000 women.
SWAEE programme Coordinator Bosena Kassa told ENA that almost all of the projects focus on women.
She said the organization has so far provided various training to HIV/AIDS victims and low-income women as well as HIV-orphaned children on peer education, bamboo works, hair dressing and tailoring , among others, with a view to enabling them become self-supportive.
Bosena said the organization has been provideding assistances to more than 320 people living with the virus and to 600 orphans.
The society has allocated three million birr to expand its service in 2007, he said, adding the organization operates in 40 African countries at present.
