The Moslem community should contribute its share in the fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS, the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council said.
Council Vice President Sheik Elias Redman made the remark in a message delivered yesterday in connection with Id Alfetir to be celebrated tomorrow.
The holiday is unique in that it is celebrated once a year after the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Elias said and called on Moslems to uphold the culture of helping one another by feeding and clothing the destitute as well as giving money to the poor.
He also urged Moslems to contribute their share in the efforts of preventing HIV/AIDS and alleviating poverty.
Sheik Elias expressed the deep sorrow of the Supreme Council over the recent conflict between Moslems and Christians around Jimma, Illubabor and Agaro towns contrary to the tradition of peaceful coexistence which used to be exercised by followers of the two religions.
On top of condemning the act, the Vice President said the council is working in collaboration with the relevant bodies to bring about peace between the followers of the two religions in the localities.
