Mauritius: Alarm Sounded Over Rising Number of Suicides

Port Louis — Between 300 and 400 people commit suicide each year in the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, according to a local Catholic weekly La Vie Catholique.

The paper referred to a study by psychologist Emilie Rivet who found that 14 per cent of people who committed suicide between 2001 and 2004 were aged between 12 and 20.
