Mogadishu — One person has died after Mogadishu based factory that manufactures spring mattresses has burnt down overnight.
Anshur Mattresses Manufacturer has got on blaze late last night after an electric shock has triggered the inferno that entirely devastated the prominent firm and the properties inside.
Anshur Mattresses factory that locates on the edge of the capital Mogadishu was one of the three famous factories in Somalia that was widely liked by the people.
It has experienced the worst tragic accident as one of the factory administrators, who refused to talk to Shabelle Radio in Mogadishu after the accident, has remarked.
Somalia's privately owned mattress factories have emerged in the last five years and have alleviated the needs of the civilian population who mainly hinged on foreign expensive mattresses imported in the country by Somali traders.
The news comes at a time when Somalia's tense situation is running high and hopes for the reconciliation talks between the federal government led by president Abdulahi Yusuf and Somalia's Union of Islamic Courts have ended in failure after both groups could not compromise on conditions in which Somalia's Islamists demanded Ethiopian troops withdrawal from Somalia.
Islamists have also objected to Kenya as a co-chair of the peace talks, stating Kenya is partial and backs up the presence of Ethiopian troops in the country.
Somalia has had no effective national administration since 1991 when tribal warlords ousted former president Siad Barre.
Residents in Ex-control junction on the northern outskirts of the capital where Anshur Mattress Company was located said they had tried to put out the blaze but failed as they lacked the proper extinguishing apparatuses.
Somalia has had no firefighters or fire extinguishing equipments for the last 16 years when the central government had collapsed in 1991.
