Somalia: UNDP Security Head in Puntland Expelled

Mogadishu — United Nations officer in the autonomous regional government of Puntland has been expelled on Thursday after authorities said they had tightened security in the region.

UNDP security officer in Puntland has been accused of involvement in illegal activities in the region as Puntland's cabinet ministers have revealed today in an urgent meeting they held in the region which is in northeast Somalia.

Hundreds of demonstrators have rallied in Garowe Center of Puntland today, protesting against the new Islamic Court recently opened in Galka'ayo under the control of Puntland administration.

The news came as four persons were killed and scores wounded after armed militiamen have ambushed herdsmen in Walkabahan village in Bur Hakaba, 180 km southwest of the capital Mogadishu, robbing their camels.

The victims have reportedly hailed from Qoryoley district in Lower Shabelle province.

Somalia has had no functioning government since 1991 when tribal warlords toppled former president Mohammed Siad Barre.
