Nigeria: Army Colonel Emerges New Sultan

Sokoto — SERVING Army Colonel, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, yesterday, emerged as the new Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual head of Nigeria's estimated 70 million muslims.

Abubakar, 50, the son of late Sultan Sadiq Abubakar III and military attache in Pakistan, succeeded his elder brother, late Sultan Muhammadu Maccido, who was killed in Sunday's ADC plane crash along with 95 others.
