Uganda: Govt Schools to Miss U.S.E. Funds

Kampala — AT least 90 government-aided-schools have been left out of the Universal Post Primary Education and Training programme which starts next year.

The schools, the majority of them A' Level boarding include up-grade schools.

Francis Lubanga, the education ministry permanent Secretary, recently said financial constraints dictated that disadvantaged schools from poor rural communities initially benefit from the programme.

The programme does not cater for boarding costs although special consideration shall be given to boarding schools in the turbulent north, Karamoja region and Kalangala district.

The other selection criteria is that the schools should not be charging over sh75,000 per term.

Under the scheme government shall pay a consolidated grant of sh7m per term per beneficiary schools in addition to a capitation of sh29,420 per student per term.

The capitation for business, technical and vocational training institutions shall be sh68,720 per student.

The schools are as follows.
