Nigeria: INEC Orders AD to Hold Convention Dec 11

Lagos — The Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa-led faction of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), has been ordered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to hold a national convention not later than December 11, 2006 if it must partake in the 2007 general elections. INEC, had in a letter dated October 31, 2006, endorsed by Alhaji AB Jauro, Secretary to the Commission, dated October 31, 2006 ordered the party to immediately put machinery in motion to conduct a national convention, which would be attended by officials of the commission.

" I am directed to inform you that INEC, having looked at the intra-party crises of the AD has directed that a national convention be held on or not later than December 11, 2006,‚¨ ý? the letter said.
