Gambia: Eight Opposition Supporters Appear in Court

Banjul — Eight opposition UDP supporters have reappeared in court in Kanifing on Monday 5th November. Dudu Kassa Jatta, Lamin Jawara and five juveniles are in court charged with various alleged offenses, including "threatening violence, prohibition of conduct and obstructing a police officer while in due execution of his duty."

Mr. Dudu Kassa is the elder brother of detained opposition Ward Councilor, Ousman Rambo Bojang. Their family has been the scene of several political controversies with police and rival APRC supporters. The younger Rambo has been in detention since September 23rd even after a High Court Judge ordered his release several weeks ago. The family is seen by many as the target of political prosecution orchestrated by leading supporters in Bakau.
