Nairobi — Two American missionaries charged with inciting people to violence in Ngong Town are now free.
Mr Orisio Andrew Saucer, Mr Paul Garcia and two Kenyan pastors Mr Michael Otange and Mr Patrick Mutinda were set free on Thursday after a Nairobi magistrate found them not guilty.
In her ruling, the Kibera Principal Magistrate, Ms Hellen Wasilwa dismissed the charges, saying the prosecution had failed to prove their case.
She said the prosecution had failed to prove how the missionaries had incited pupils at Bulbul Primary School.
"The accused came to preach and teach children the word of God. Out of the 4, 000 pamphlets distributed, only 300 were claimed to be offending, 24 hours later," she said.
She said religious books written by Muslims are sold in bookshops, adding that no Christian has ever attacked a Muslim over remarks such as "Jesus is not the son of God, but a prophet."
She said anyone can believe in whatever he/she wishes since the Kenya Constitution allows for freedom of worship.
