Abuja — WIFE of Rivers State governor, Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Odili hs enjoined female lawyers in the country to maintain standards and ethics to excel in the practice.
Justice Odili gave the advice while speaking at a book launch titled sisters in Law in Abuja. She represented her husband who is aspiring to be president in 2007, at the occasion.
The Rivers State First Lady, disclosed that her husband's love for lawyers was exemplary, particularly women lawyers.
She said it was not a surprise why the governor tried to encourage female lawyers at all times not to see law as a valuable profession that should be put at the back burner but practiced in the numerous fields available.
Justice Odili noted that several senior legal colleagues influenced and encouraged them in their choice of the legal profession.
The 231-page book, Sisters in Law: Careers choices for Nigerian Women Lawyers" is jointly authored by Boma Ozobia and Elizabeth Cruickshank.
It gave insight into renown career women lawyers, the successes and how they come to be lawyers.
It is also an advisory to young lawyers starting out at the beginning of their legal careers, as well as information on how to qualify as legal practitioner in Nigeria, and the various careers open to women lawyers.
The hardcover book is intended for law students and young women lawyers.
It also appeals to anyone who is interested in Nigeria's women lawyers and legal system.
According to Senator Joy Emordi who was present at the launch, the book serves as a record of women's achievement in the profession and in the wider human community.
"History is full of great men and women and we have all admired these great men over the ages. However, we do not hear enough about great women and their achievements. Not because we have none, but because history has tended to be written by men and suite naturally from a male perspective", she lamented.
