From colourful ethnic cotton prints to woven, handpainted, beaded gowns that could give top French designers a run for sophistication, Nigerian designers once again gave an excellent account of themselves, at the recently concluded 6th edition of The Nigeria Fashion Show, Paris.
The NFS Paris which held at Espace Pierre Cardin in the 8th District of Paris, a first rate event venue owned by world acclaimed designer Pierre Cardin featured designs of some of the finest hands in the Nigeria fashion industry; Bayo Adegbe of Modela, Nigeria's current best designer Tesslo, Henrietta Agboola's House of Henri, Vigold Creations and Northern based designer, Faisal Mohammed representing Zalfag Exclusives.
The show which projected the abounding talents and creativity in the Nigerian fashion industry opened with designs from Zalfag, whose collections revealed his dexterity in hand made woven shirts some accompanied with hot pants.
House of Henri drew applause for fitting robes in shades of yellow & outfits in yellow and purples. In a swirl of hues and designs recalling an impressionist vision of water lilies, Wura Adepoju's Vigold featured long gowns in a melee of green and purple and green and blue.
Nigeria's current best designer Tesslo left the audience drooling with her range of evening apparels with almost 100% local content including calabash and other exquisite accessories.
Bayo Adegbe's Modela Couture with his trademark layered fabrics combined African origin and European sophistication. A patchwork frock robe made of hand-painted jute in peacock blues and greens came complete with a cage-like top. He also featured some sack, cane and wired masks in his very impressive collections.
This year's edition was witnessed by Ex-captain of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh who is elder brother of Tessy Oliseh. Other special guests were daughter of billionaire business mogul Chief Rasak Okoya, Biola Okoya, top sports analyst, Mitchel Obi and Publisher of Global Excellence magazine, Mayor Akinpelu.
Mr. Pierre de Saint-Albain, the last General Manager of Air France Nigeria who is now based in their Headquarters in France, in charge of Africa and the Middle East, also graced the event. Musical entertainment was provided by Muma Gee, who left the audience ecstatic and asking for more.
The show was supported by Air France/KLM, DHL, Ovation international, Eskade, Technip & Peugeot both based in Paris.
