Uige — A total of 28, 000 peasant families of Negage district, in the northern Uige Province, are currently engaged in the implementation of the rural extension and development programme for the 2006/2007 agricultural season, with the cultivation of rice, maize and bean, a source of the sector informed ANGOP on Sunday.
According to the official in charge of the agriculture sector in Negage district, Miguel Mbemba Mata, the farmers tilled 1, 992 hectares of land, out of which 771 hectares were used for the cultivation of maize, the same number of hectares with beans and 450 with rice.
