In a seminal treatise on winning in life more than a century ago, Orison Swett Marden, opined that deep within each one of us dwell those slumbering powers; powers that would astonish each one of us, and that none among us ever dreamt of possessing, but nonetheless forces that would revolutionise our lives if properly aroused, harnessed and put into action. That was well before man invented the plane and flew over oceans, created the atomic bomb, reached the moon, performed the heart transplant, ran the mile in less than five minutes not to mention a splendid array of numerous other magnificent inventions and achievements.
Even more amazing and instructive is the fact that all these feats were accomplished by men and women of flesh and blood, like you and me, many of whom had been written off as no-hopers. That statement is as true now, as it was then. Like all great truths it cuts across age, gender, cultures, races, professions and all other dimensions that can be used to characterise human beings.
