East Africa: Ford-K Roots for EALA Post

Nairobi — Ford-Kenya is lobbying to have its nominee, Mr Gervas Akhaabi, elected as the Speaker for East African Legislative Assembly (Eala).

Public Service minister and Sabatia MP, Mr Moses Akaranga, said Ford-K was seeking support of MPs from Eala member countries to support Akhaabi.

"Akhaabi is an advocate of the High Court and is qualified to run for the Speaker's position," he added.

Akaranga, who is vying for Ford-Kenya national chairmanship, was addressing the party's delegates from Nyanza Province at Katito Township, Nyando. He was accompanied by former Kasipul Kabondo MP Dr Otieno K'Opiyo.

The minister appealed to Kenyan Eala MPs to put aside political differences and rally behind Akhaabi.

The Eala Constitution states that anyone among the MPs can vie for the post.
