Kampala — UGANDA has missed out on hosting 2007 Africa Motocross Union (AMU) Championship. The event to be held in August will now be hosted by Kenya.

The event was switched to Nairobi after Kenya presented a stronger case during the AMU annual congress held in Morocco earlier this month.

Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) vice president technical Kisitu-Mayanja, and secretary Lillian Busingye attended the congress.

"It happened that Uganda were not ready for the continental tourney and we thus took the opportunity to market ourselves. We are extremely happy because we will be the first country to host the event twice inside five years," Kenya Motorsport Foundation President Maina Muturi said.

"This was only possible due to the support we get from the riders, parents and sponsors." Kenya first hosted the AMU Championship in 2002. FMU President David Bitalo said that he is still waiting for a report from Uganda's delegation to Morocco.

The decision to award the Africa event is a big blow for Uganda as the renovation of Garuga double circuit is already underway.

The African event will attract Tunisia, Morocco and Morocco from North Africa. Other countries expected are South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda, Mauritius and Zambia.

Meanwhile, the Ugandan team set to compete at this weekend's East Africa motocross event is already in Nairobi.

The team will today go for practice at Jamhuri Motocross Circuit, the venue of the event.
