Lagos — By May 29, 2007, our nation Nigeria will have enjoyed eight unbroken years of democracy. These have been eight years of learning. Transition from the long years of military occupation has not been an easy one, for we still live with the psyche of military expediency.

Moreover, we still co-exist, side by side with retired military officers, majority of whom, are key-players in our young democracy. It is expected that it will take a while for them to understand and adapt to the collective principles of democracy as opposed to the arbitrary dictates of the officer in-charge. This has been the major problem with our democracy, but change happens with time.
