In the course of a life time, many of us experience vast array of sensations in good as in bad times. Some people have the gift of speech to talk about their story of life. Fewer people are able or even bother to write on their reflections during the changing fortunes of time. Majority die without ever a word to stamp on the memory board of others. Some times we blame society. Other times we have ourselves to blame for not asking what others hold in stock. Unless we knock the doors of others, they could not let us in. On this occasion, Gambian poet Amadou Bocar Khaddy Sey, a sibling to Essa Bocar Sey holds unpublished documentation of his rich thoughts, and ready to share them with all mankind . We now reveal what Mr Sey kept to himself since 1993. Amadou Bocar Khaddy Sey was English Teacher at Gunjur Secondary School in the Western Region of Gambia up to June 1994. He now lives in far away Paris, France. He calls his reflections of life "Diverse Visions", depicting a wide contrast of changing views as we journey the rough landscapes of this unpredictable universe. A blend of nature and modernisation. Here we go.
Tribute to the scripts of William Shakespeare I quote,
"No longer mourn for me when I am dead
Than you shall hear the surly sullen bell
Give warning to the world that I am fled
From this vile world with vilest warms to dwell
Nay, if you read this line remember not
The hand that writ it, for I love you so,
That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot,
If thinking on me then should make you woe.
INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR
DIVERSE VISIONS Saturday, 12 March 2005
First and foremost I dedicate these poems to my late father (Ustas Bocarr Sey - may his soul rest in perfect peace. May Allah accept him in paradise amen) To my mother Aja Haddy Bah, my loving wife Ouleymatou Bah, to my children Bocar Sey, Essa and Asiatou Sey (the twins), to Aminata Sey and Alpha Souleyman Sey, to my brothers and sisters, to humanity at large.
These collection of poems form galaxy of ideas inspired by experiences achieved through journeys within my native land and beyond, with the aid of information tools. The major contents are based on challenges and possible remedies in life. Some of it refers to the burning issues of this generation. I put it in this form for transmission of challenges we the generation of today face day after day. It is a contribution towards ways and means of ameliorating these endless tribulations of life.
There is reference also to history and historical facts, legacies and accidents. The young and old, science, scientific facts and fiction. Attention is also paid to religions and so many other important aspects that make life worth living. Especially on politics, ideologies, organisations and democratic values. Social and cultural norms and values. In a nutshell, the forum remains open, therefore needs a redress-to achieve a global salvation.
In such tumultuous times, one cannot just remain silent. With so minute as my contribution may be, I hope turning just a little stone, to inform, remind and inspire, some or even the few who may come across this text. Poems are delicate and in most cases interpreted in different and indeed diverse ways, depending on the circumstances the reader is, considering situations or conditions one finds one's self. Therefore my target is rather towards the most complicated faculty of the human and that is the mind; how it affects one's actions and deeds. So here goes "DIVERSE VISIONS" composed of almost all aspects within my life as a teacher.
Finally I submit all power to Allah Almighty, Who if He so wishes could exalt all things in creation, for He and only He is the supreme creator: into completeness. The grace and dignity of His Prophet Muhammad, I begin this text with the Power of the Supreme Being. I pray to accomplish this task with success in achieving my aim. Which in the end is infinite if my message is heard and transmitted to generations forward. Living amidst this complex challenging world of science and technology, attention has also been paid to not only the merits but also the disadvantages. The side effects of the comforts they provide for humanity. Effects such as global warming.
VAGUE ASSUMPTION ON NATURE'S ENEMY 10TH SEPT.1992
Yonder as far as your eyes can see
Beyond or at the horizon of the blue sea
Marine life is on retreat
By burning tanker's and trawler's threat
Blowing is the cool breeze
That seems to freeze
Take a look and gaze around
This is what surrounds
Environmental degradation!
Time! We realise the effects
Of industrial revolution defects.
For it is never too late
If we have to vacate
These threats of a monstrous global warming
You've been warned
So that you won't mourn.
Be sure that these effects
Are the creators of defects?
As instincts and greed
Accelerate desertification
Towards an ever ascending
Air and sea pollution!
THE OPPRESSED - (17TH AUGUST 1992)
In tarnished opportunities they
No doubt they could have been equipped from the entrance
For they commenced in nuzzled inferiority complex
Resembling boiled eggs
As that yoke within those heads harden like rocks
Thus no more hope to hatch
It is a shocking scene to witness such destruction
It could be heart braking my lad!
In spite greedy guys feed in shame
As all along brains get baked in the tropics my side,
These brains get also drained away to the west
Up there in the cold they freeze to nuts.
Melted only by vicious hard drugs, alcohol or coffee!
These brains get thicker as they stick to tired skulls
Thus in such how could constructive thoughts grow
So they waver in the medium of thick brain lobes
As syndromes of torture mount on higher!
Amidst degrading moral insults cycling on.
So high at an extent those altitudes uncountable
In suspense thoughts die away, locked up in exhausted efforts
As a social state of fear remain in permanence
The feathers of their wings wilt
Crumbling down to pieces into dust
Roasting the young, who crawl forever but never fly high.
They are crippled as a result of oppression
High up! From the panels of vicious, corrupt leaders
Who allow not the progress?
Of any but their kind
Kept kindle!
