The Fct Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawrence Alobi, Says Abuja is Now Peaceful And Secured Following the Arrest of 24 Armed Robbery Suspects And the Recovery of 12 Assorted Guns in the Territory Within the Past Ten Days.
Mr. Alobi made the remark in his office recently when he paraded 24 armed robbery suspects arrested by crack detectives and men of the police operation Farauta from the FCT police command.
He said 12 different robbery gangs were smashed by his men that led to the arrest of the 24 suspects, and the recovery of one English made pistol, nine locally made pistols, a double barrel gun cut to size and a dane gun.
Four live ammunition, five live cartridges, two knives, two torchlights and 19 assorted GSM handsets were among the items allegedly recovered from members of the various robbery gangs arrested by the command.
The CP, who was worried over the increasing involvement of young men in criminal activities in the territory, pleaded with local government authorities, traditional institutions and parents to counsel their wards and children against coming to the FCT when they have no meaningful trade to do.
He said: "Most of these youths involved in crimes came from their various states in anticipation of coming to make easy and cool money in Abuja. When they discover that the money is not forthcoming and have no trade to live on, they take to crimes."
He said most of the armed robbery suspects were arrested at the scene of the crimes.
The FCT police chief said two other robbery attempts, one at Wuse Zone 7 and the other at Wuse Zone 5, were foiled by the command as the suspected robbers that tried to attack the two places were dispersed by his men before they could succeed in stealing anything.
He said four cars and a motorcycle that were earlier snatched from their owners at gun points by the suspected robbers were recovered by his men.
He gave the particulars of the recovered vehicles as a red Toyota Corolla car with registration number, AE 08 MGN; a Toyota Corolla Compact, with registration number BD 650 ABC; a red Mazda car, with registration number BT 873 ABJ; a Toyota Corollar car, with registration number BZ 872 ABJ, and Jincheng motorcycle with registration number QA 673 SBA.
Mr. Alobi assured that all the cases would be charged to court as soon as the police complete their investigations.
