Kenya: Desert Orchid's Ashes Go Under His Statue

Nairobi — Having become an iconic part of Boxing Day, Desert Orchid's ashes were laid to rest this week under a headstone by his statue at the Kempton Park racing track.

Kauto Star, already rated as the best horse since Desert Orchid, won his first King George VI Chase with Ruby Walsh, eight lengths clear of Exotic Dancer and Racing Demon. But, he will need to grip it another four times to overhaul Desert Orchid's record, and earn similar ceremonial rights.
