Uganda: Kabushenga Alerts Public On Fraudsters

Kampala — A RACKET of conmen in Mbarara district is reportedly impersonating The New Vision Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kabushenga.

Kabushenga yesterday said many businessmen and politicians had fallen victim to the group which defrauds people of money.

They reportedly imitate Kabushenga's voice and claim to be calling from either ministers Kahinda Otafiire or Dr. Crispus Kiyonga's office.

They instruct the call recipient to assist a student at Mbarara University.

Kabushenga said the persons to be helped are usually portrayed as children or relatives of prominent people. Internal Affairs Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and Gulu LC5 Chairman Norbert Mao are some of the people mentioned by the fraudsters.

"These people ask for minimal amounts of money that are appropriate for students, between sh50,000 and sh150,000. I would like to warn whoever gets such a call to cross-check with me," Kabushenga advised.

Two women were reportedly arrested as they solicited money from a Horizon Coach manager at the Baganda Bus Park in Kampala last week.
