Uganda: Mayor Sebaggala Hospitalised

Kampala — Mayor Hajji Nasser Sebaggala was on Friday morning admitted at Kampala International Hospital in a critical condition after an abrupt abdominal complication.

Makindye East MP Mr Michael Mabikke was also admitted at the same hospital with malaria and chest pain.

Mr Sebaggala's wife Ms Gera Moshe told Sunday Monitor that her husband was suffering from an appendix problem, which medics said could require an operation.

"He is sick and has been admitted at IHK. He is now recovering and we strongly hope he will be back in office very soon," Ms Gera told Sunday Monitor at the hospital in Namuwongo, Kampala.

She said Sebaggala had a scheduled meeting with Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya but could not make it. Meanwhile the City Director of Health Services Dr Meserch Mubiru said cholera cases were still prevalent and cautioned the public against eating food sold on roadsides.

"Cholera cases are still being reported at Mulago Hospital though we have no more death so far. The public should therefore remain cautious," Mubiru said by telephone yesterday.
