Lagos — PRELATE of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Sunday Ola Makinde and the Secretary-General of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Joseph Ojo have hailed the death sentence passed on controversial cleric, Rev. Emeka Ezeuko by the Lagos High Court.
Both clerics justified the death sentence in separate telephone interviews with Daily Champion shortly after yesterday's judgement.
However, Rev. Dr. Makinde said, the controversial priest has a right of appeal against the death sentence slammed on him for murder and attempted murder of his church members.
Quoting the scripture that every soul that sinneth shall die, Makinde said, the death sentence passed on Rev. Ezeuko was a big lesson to "other people who hide under God to commit atrocities against mankind."
Makinde also said that the judgement was indicative of the fact "whatever you do, any day God remembers you, you will give account of your deeds. God cannot be mocked."
He stressed that there are many Rev. Kings out there but warned them to learn from the disgraced priest "because their own day will come."
Justifying the death sentence, Bishop Ojo said: "that (judgement) is good, the law has taken its rightful course. It shows that the Nigerian judiciary can be trusted. Nigeria would soon come out of the woods".
