Gambia: Iranian Leader Stops Over Again

Banjul — The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ahmadinejad on Tuesday morning, 16th January made another brief stop at the Banjul International Airport where he had a brief chat with his Gambian counterpart Yahya Jammeh. Mr. Ahmadinejad is returning home from official visits to Latin American countries including Nicaragua and Venezuela where he met with Latin American leaders in Managua and Caracas.

Since he was accorded a controversial invitation to address the Banjul AU Summit of heads of states last July, relations between Iran and The Gambia has warmed remarkably. President Jammeh became well disposed to the ant-American camp after The Gambia was suspended from the list of donor countries of the American sponsored Millennium Challenge Corporation in the summer of 2006.
