Nairobi — Why is a second American carrier battle group headed for the Gulf where it is expected within a month? What could have happened to persuade Washington to dispatch the USS John C Stennis, with its 5,000 sailor-carrying capacity and air wing of 80 tactical aircraft, to the Gulf?

One carrier battle group is reason enough to raise both eyebrows and hackles in this troubled region of the world. But two - the other being the USS Dwight D Eisenhower - points to awesome power being assembled to force some country to toe the American line or be pulverised into submission.
