Angola: Fourteen Cholera Cases Detected in Past 24 Hours

Cabinda — Fourteen cases of cholera were registered in the past 24 hours in the Provincial Hospital of Cabinda, ANGOP learnt this Friday from the head of the department of public health and control of endemic diseases, Razão Simão.

The age group from 10 to over 50 years is the most affected. Forty patients are currently hospitalised in one of the two units specialised for the treatment of cholera.

Since the first case in May 2006, about 1,580 cases were registered from which 40 resulted in deaths, mainly adults, due to the fact that most refused to drink treated water for the alleged fact that it losses its taste.
