Ghana: Desecration of Muslim Graves

Alhaji Sulemana Salaga, chief of the Muslim community in Winneba, has appealed to residents to assist the police to arrest grave looters who have destroyed about 100 graves at the Winneba Muslim Cemetery.

Alhaji Salaga also called for a probe into the alleged sale of part of the cemetery, which was consecrated in 1960 which had lead to the construction of buildings on some graves. Making the call at a press briefing at Winneba over the weekend, Alhaji Salaga expressed regret that although the cemetery shared boundaries with those of Christian churches in Winneba, the thieves had targeted only the graves of the departed Muslims.
