Addis Ababa — The Kenyan government extradited Saturday close to 40 Islamist prisoners to the government of Somalia in response to early TFG demand that all UIC members held in Kenya be transported to Somalia, according to SomaliNet.
A Kenyan airplane carrying the Islamist landed at the main Mogadishu airport on Saturday where they were handed over to TFG forces in the capital.
Abdirahman Dinari, the government spokesman confirmed the news of the handing over of the members of the ousted UIC to the government later Saturday.
"They were about 30 Islamist prisoners including key officers who were brought in Mogadishu and extradited to the security forces," SomaliNet quoted Dinari as saying.
SomaliNet further said that Dinari declined to give details about the exiled Islamists saying the government will soon release a report about their exact number, ranks and names.
