Angola: Fishing Institute Receives Research Boat

Luanda — A boat for research called "Environment" was officially on Friday handed over to the National Institute of Fishing Research (INIP) by the Regional Programme of the Great Marine Ecosystem of Benguela's Cold Current (BCLM).

The five-metre boat was built by the shipyard of "Z-Craft" in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, and is equipped with two Yahama engines 90 horses, with a fish detecting system, a Geographic Positioning System and a VHF radio.

The boat is also equipped with a coast map, a set of protection and safety equipment. The boat can be transported and launched in various areas along the coast.

At the handing over ceremony, the deputy minister of Fisheries, Pedro Joao Antonio, affirmed that the boat will be useful for INIP, as it will be possible to establish environment monitoring programmes in sensible areas like the coast waters.

The deputy minister seized the opportunity to inform that the research boat called Tombwa is getting prepared to do shipyard works in South Africa.
