Lagos — Equity trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) dipped on Tuesday by 7.81 per cent from Friday's turnover of 338.58 million shares valued at N4.44 billion in 9,037 deals to a turnover of 312.14 million shares valued at N5.46 billion in 9,504 deals.
The Banking sub-sector dominated the other sub-sectors accounting for 83.61 per cent of the market turnover with 260.97 million shares valued at N4.27 billion in 6,268 deals. United Bank for Africa Plc recorded the highest patronage in the sub-sector recording 65.89 million shares valued at N2.05 billion in 756 deals, followed by Wema Bank Plc with a turnover of 32.09 million shares valued at N138.90 million in 480 deals and Fidelity Bank Plc exchanged 24.98 million shares valued at N81.39 million in 294 deals.
The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectoral analysis with a turnover of 10.28 million shares valued at N21.51 million in 266 deals. Cornerstone Insurance Company Plc recorded the highest transaction in the sub-sector trading 4.14 million shares valued at N5.33 million in 40 deals, followed by Unic Insurance Plc with a turnover of 1.04 million shares valued at N2.64 million in 45 deals and AIICO Insurance Plc recorded 851,834 shares valued at N2.36 million in 33 deals.
The indices for measuring performance of securities on the NSE, the All-share index and the market capitalization, appreciated on Tuesday by 0.71 per cent each. The All-share index which opened at 35,896.31 points closed at 36,152.94 points while the capitalization closed at N4.89 trillion from N4.86 trillion at which it opened.
West Africa Portland Cement Company Plc recorded the highest share price appreciation opening at N66.00 per share to close at N69.30 per share, followed by Ashaka Cement Plc with a gain of N3.00 per share to close at N68.00 per share and Seven-up Bottling Company Plc gained N2.34 to close at N49.34 per share.
Other share price gainers' include: Julius Berger Nigeria Plc N2.20, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated N2.00, United Bank for Africa Plc N1.49, PZ Industries Plc N1.15, Okomu Oil Palm Plc N1.01, Zenith Bank Plc N1.00, Conoil Plc N0.70 among others.
Total Nigeria Plc, on the other hand, recorded the highest share depreciation as its shares which opened at N188.98 per share dropped by N8.08 to close at N180.90 per share, followed by Guinness Nigeria Plc with a loss of N5.00 to close at N112.00 per share and Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc depreciated by N4.50 to close at N165.50 per share.
Other share price losers include: Cadbury Nigeria Plc N2.03, CAP Plc N1.37, Nestle Nigeria Plc N1.25, GT. Bank Plc N1.01, Nigerian Breweries Plc N1.01, RT. Briscoe Plc N0.89, Benue Cement Company Plc N0.50 among others.
