Ghana: Joseph Project to Attract More Africans in Diaspora to Central Region - Says Tourism Minister

The Joseph Project, which has been introduced by the Tourism and Diasporan Relations Ministry, is expected to boost tourism in the Central Region this year during Ghana's 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

The sector Minister, Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, told The Chronicle on Friday that more tourists expected in the country during the 50th anniversary are expected to visit the Central Region, where traces of the obnoxious Slave Trade abound.

Some of the traces of the Slave Trade in Ghana can be found in the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, forts along the coast and the Assin Manso Slave Market among others.

This, he said, will help ease the pressure on hotels in Accra during the celebrations and that hoteliers in the Central Region will also benefit from the project.

According to Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey, thousands of people around the globe are expected to grace the occasion alongside the "Joseph Project."

He said, currently, tour operators were compiling lists of prospective tourists stressing that it was a good sign for the country. He therefore allayed fears that hotels in the country cannot contain the number of expected visitors.

His explanation comes in the wake of media speculations that hotels in Ghana could not host visitors who would come for the occasion.
