Kenya: Wanjiru Joins ODM

Nairobi — Embattled televangelist Margaret Wanjiru has today formally joined ODM Kenya.

Making the move at the Liberal Democratic Party headquarters in Nairobi, Bishop Wanjiru said she will contest the Starehe parliamentary seat on an ODM-K ticket.

"Let there be no doubt that Bishop Margaret Wanjiru is in ODM Kenya. I believe we in ODM Kenya are best placed to offer Kenyans the best leadership," she said.

She was received by ODM presidential hopefuls Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, four MPs and a host of Starehe LDP officials.

Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka vowed to stand by the bishop who they stated supported their rejection of the proposed Constitution in a referendum over a year ago.

Said Mr Odinga: "We are very happy that the bishop is joining us. She has been with us for long and played a great role during the referendum and delivered Starehe votes."

Bishop Wanjiru has lately been in the limelight after controversy rocked her plans to wed a South African cleric. A man claiming to be her legal husband, James Kamangu has gone to court to stop the wedding.
