Addis Ababa — Studies have confirmed that the historical town of Adwa has a tremendous potential for developing eco-tourism, according to Addis Ababa University.
Consequently an international forum that aims to publicize the research would be held in Adwa town, Tigray State, on February 22,2007 as part the 111th Adwa Victory Celebration.
Director of the Institute of Development Research with the Addis Ababa University, Dr. Mulugeta Fiseha told WIC that findings have revealed that discoveries in Adwa could be one of the few similar sites in the world.
The discoveries include documents indicating how the Sabian language was transformed into Geez before 800 BC and additional archaeological findings indicating the use of rocks as timbers, he said.
The Adwa Chain of Mountains is the place where migratory birds stay for a while to have a break during their migration from the North to the South Pole, the Director said, adding that a national park will therefore be established.
Adwa is a place of glorious victory that people around the world should learn about and the six professors who have undertaken the research are expected to come up with ideas that would help change the historical and natural resources into economic benefits through eco-tourism, which is the main purpose of the study, Dr Mulugeta said.
Some 100 scholars would take part in the three-day international discussion forum slated to be held on 22 February, it was learnt.
