Nigeria: Talking Point - Return to Sodom?

Lagos — A fortnight ago, primates of the Anglican Church around the world met in the Tanzanian capital city, Dar es Salam, to deliberate on some of the most controversial and polarising issues to have faced Christiandom in a very long time. Two of the issues, namely, the question of homosexuality and the ordination of female priests stood out like a sore thumb having pitched the African members of the Anglican Church leadership against their colleagues from the West, specifically the United States of America.

While it is true that the bible speaks, either directly or otherwise, on some of the issues involved in the debate, the battle that brought the top hierarchy of the Anglican Church to Dar, particularly, the controversy surrounding homosexuality is not yet an everyday issue among Christians not to mention the rest of society. As is always the case in situations like this, the debate is still confined to the leadership of the church. Majority of those (and by this I mean the average adherents of the Christian faith) that would be most affected by the outcome of this debate, don't appear to be aware of it much less appreciate its implication for and on them.
