Angola: Over 40,000 Malaria Cases Detected in Sambizanga District

Luanda — Forty thousand 662 cases of malaria were registered in Sambizanga district in 2006, states a report of the local health department.

ANGOP learnt Thursday from the document that 1,727 cases of severe respiratory diseases were also detected, as well as 9,04 severe diarrhoeic illnesses.

Typhoid fever with 6,390 cases, cholera 315, tuberculosis 570, HIV/SIDA 69 and measles with 12 cases, are also part of the statistics.

The emergency ward of the Municipal Hospital of Sambizanga attended to 41,526 different cases.

Sambizanga district, one of the largest of the Angolan capital (Luanda) has five health centres.
