Ethiopia: Addis to Establish Millennium Celebration Council

Addis Ababa — The founding conference of the Addis Ababa City Millennium Council would be held next Tuesday, Metropolitan Millennium Office announced.

Briefing journalists yesterday, officials said the Council would comprise 127 members drawn from governmental offices, non governmental organizations, the civil society organizations, prominent personalities, artistes, religious leaders, and other prominent figures.

The conference is expected to approve a two-year strategic plan of the Council, the projects to be implemented during the two years, and other related documents.

The Addis Ababa City Millennium Office was established in December 2006, they said, adding it has carried out various activities toward celebrating the millennium colourfully.

The establishment of a millennium park, millennium libraries, as well as 34 festivals and exhibitions are among the major projects expected to be approved by the Council, they said.
