Kenya: Union Boss Arrested As KPLC Strike Begins

Nairobi — Normal power supply continued in all parts of the country as sections of the Kenya Power and Lighting employees joined in a largely abortive national strike. Striking workers were violently dispersed and one union official arrested.

Although there were insignificant interruptions in Mombasa, Kisumu and Naivasha, most KPLC employees grouped under the Kenya Electrical Trade and Allied Workers Union (Ketawu) ignored the strike.
