Nigeria: Ezekwesili Warns Against Continued Neglect of Education Sector

Abuja — The Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili at the weekend warned that the nation risked turning its teeming population of school age into "weapons of mass destruction" if the neglect of the eductaion sector was not addressed immediately.

Addressing a meeting of stakeholders in the eduction sector in Abuja Mrs Ezekwesili also announced that the Ministry and a major operator in the downstream sector of the oil industry, Ooando will this week sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the Adopt-A-School-Programme under which the oil company will adopt 250 schools and bring them to the standard already drawn up by the Ministry.
