Luanda — The author of the goal that gave Angola unprecedented qualification for the World Cup, Alcebiades Maieco "Akwá", leads the list of former international players of the National Team of football being honoured this year by the soccer federation, Angop learned.
Angola Football Federation (FAF) will try to honour the former national team scorer along with other old stars of the Angolan team, FAF president Justino Fernandes, announced Saturday.
Sporting Club of Portugal's former striker, Joaquim Dinis, might be among the chosen names.
Without a date until now, the only name confirmed is that of the national team's ever best scorer with 38 goals out of 98 games, Akwá.
Born on May 30, 1977, in Benguela province, the striker scored a goal that gave Angola's win over Rwanda, October 08, 2005, leading to the unprecedented qualification to the World Cup, of Germany 2006.
After playing for Benguela National Club, Benfica, Alverca and Académica de Coimbra (those three last from Portugal), Al Wakra, Al Gharaffa and Qatar SC (of Qatar), the former national squad number 10 is currently without a club.
During the World Cup, Akwá announced his retirement from national competition, already preparing for his farewell game, to happen at Cidadela Sports Stadium, where he scored decisive goals.
