Harare — THE unique combination of floral art and music make up the content of the next production to feature at Harare's Reps Theatre.
Dubbed That's Entertainment, the show features music from a number of popular stage and screen musicals and the interpretation of those songs in floral displays created on stage during the performance.
It will run for only four performances -- Friday 20 April (7pm), Saturday 21 April (2.30pm and 7pm) and Sunday 22 April (2.30pm).
Well-known florists, including Barbreanne Linnell, Gail Beamish and others, will make up creative floral displays on stage.
The soloists in the show are Josh Ansley, Caroline dos Santos, Tiri Madzima and Shirley Warrington and the music will come from shows such as Grease, The King and I, The Sound of Music, Ipi 'n' Tombi, My Fair Lady and several other stage shows and films.
Director Eve Stranix is upbeat about the unique blend of floral art and music.
"This will appeal to a wide range of audiences and will offer the people on stage a chance to show their interpretation of great shows and great songs," she said.
"This has been done twice before and last year's presentation, The Spirit of the West End Shows, was extremely popular with audiences at Reps, so much that we are doing this one by popular demand."
That's Entertainment will also raise funds to enable a team of Zimbabwean floral artists to travel to the United Kingdom to take part in this year's Chelsea Flower Show in May.
Josh Ansley is one of Harare's most prolific and talented young singers.
This year he has already appeared in two Reps productions -- Lucky Lips and Do U Wanna Rock Again -- and he will soon appear in one of Reps' key shows of 2007 -- Fiddler On The Roof.
Since his debut in Boy Band Blockbusters in 2005, he has starred in stage shows, concerts and cabarets and is the leader of the boy band 5Star.
Later this year he will host his own show, which will feature a miscellany of music, dance and comedy performance.
Caroline dos Santos has appeared in a number of concerts and has been singing for about six years. She starred in last year's The Spirit of the West End Shows, partnering the singer Patrick Barrett.
Both Caroline and Josh were nominees for Reps Afdis Awards of Excellence for their stage performances during 2006.
That's Entertainment will introduce two newcomers -- Shirley Warrington and Tiri Madzima. Musical director is Paul Shephard, a Reps stalwart and music teacher at St John's College.
"There is a huge pool of talent on stage for this show and we are sure it will have a winning mix of artistic creation and entertainment," said Mrs Stranix.
Booking is now open at The Spotlight.
