Freetown — Director of the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), Dr Claudius Bart-Williams Thursday said the ultra modem Celtel Academy to prepare successful business employees is in line with his college's aim of developing Sierra Leoneans in a manner consistent with best global standards.

He made this observation in his inaugural lecture during the formal opening of the Academy at the Kimbima Lodge, Signal Hill Road in Freetown.

"Get your people to be best trained. The aim must be to develop Sierra Leoneans in a manner consistent with best global standards. IPAM has set up its strategic direction which involves the continued recruitment of international class talents, faculty exchange programmes with the University of Texas, Warwick University, GIMPA and National School of Government of UK," he said adding that they are now accredited by CISCO centres and more to come in the range of areas - CIPS, CIM, CIPD, ACCA, ISASL etc.

Managing Director of Celtel, Ted Sauti-Phiri acknowledged the great coordination between IPAM and Celtel and noted that the idea of a Celtel Academy came from a well thought process to establish an ultra modem facility for training the company's staff.

"This is one of our key elements of making life better. Among many programmes that would be offered is the post graduate Diploma, an online programme so that people beyond Celtel can make use of the opportunity of the facility." He disclosed that Celtel employs some 95% of Sierra Leoneans but because the supply cannot meet their demand the company's Director of Human Resources, Fela Adeyemi will join her colleagues in the UK and USA to recruit some Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora for existing vacancies.

Outlining Celtel's initiatives - Build Our Nation project; Celtel Academy, Freetown; Employee Education Fund; Celtel Talent and Graduate Development Programmes; HIV/AIDS Initiative- Headstart and the Come Back Home initiative - Adeyemi noted that they are developing the talents of today to help the nation create a culture of excellence while they enhance the human capital skills of nationals.
